Home and Property

Working on your home and property in the Township of Springwater? Whether you're building or renovating your home, booking an inspection, or paying your taxes, we can help. Find out what's required to get a building permit to stop any avoidable fines or fees.

Septic Re-inspection Program

The Township is launching this year's Mandatory Septic Re-Inspection Program for properties located within Source Water Protection Areas (SWPA). These properties are required, under provincial regulations, to undergo septic re-inspections every five years. Affected properties are generally located within 100 meters of a municipal wellhead. Click here to see where your property falls in the SWPA.

The 2026 inspection period will run from June through August. You will receive a notice from the Township if your property is included in this program.

 The inspection will generally include:

  • Determining the location of all septic system components
  • Determining separation distances to key lot features (i.e. structures, lot lines)
  • A visual inspection of tank/lid structure
  • A visual inspection of the septic bed
  • Review and assessment of septic documentation/information (if sufficient documents are not on file, the property owner may be required to provide information such as a septic pump-out report/receipt from a qualified individual)
  • A written report by the inspector, with a copy being provided to the property owner

As part of the program, you must provide:

  • A copy of your most recent septic pump-out receipt

There is no cost for the initial inspection and one follow-up inspection, if required. Additional inspections will be charged in accordance with the Township's Fees and Charges By-law

Your notification letter includes the dates when the Township Septic Inspector will be in your area. You may also book an inspection outside these dates through your portal account.

If you would like to be present during the inspection, please contact Building Services to arrange a suitable time.

Property Maintenance Standards
