Township of Springwater / June 18, 2018 – At approximately 1:00 pm on Sunday, June 17, 2018, Springwater Fire & Emergency Services responded to reports of a structure fire on Vespra Valley Road in Minesing.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the single family dwelling fully involved. Four stations and 36 firefighters responded to the call. A tanker shuttle was established and an aerial truck was brought in from Wasaga Beach to assist with rooftop operations.

The fire was brought under control within two hours. Firefighters dealt with challenging conditions including extreme heat and home construction that made it difficult to access the fire.

A mutual aid agreement was enacted with Barrie and Tiny Township Fire Departments for mutual aid coverage and Simcoe County Paramedics were on scene assessing firefighters due to the high temperatures.

“Firefighters did a great job battling the fire, they fought through intense heat to bring the flames under control,” says Deputy Fire Chief Jeff French. “Specialized cooling chairs and ventilation fans were used to bring down firefighters core body temperature. Ensuring our firefighters safety is of extreme importance. Thank you to Simcoe County Paramedics, Wasaga Beach, Tiny and Barrie Fire Departments for their assistance.”

Nobody was home at the time of the fire. The residence has been deemed a total loss with damage estimated at $325,000. Due to the heavy structural damage the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
