Working smoke alarms alerted the residents to the fire, which led them to implement their home fire escape plan. All occupants escaped and met at their designated meeting place to call 911. No firefighters or residents were injured.

“Thank you to our team of trained firefighters who battled the blaze while managing freezing outside temperatures and equipment,” says Deputy Fire Chief Jeff French. “Working smoke alarms gave the family the lifesaving warning they needed to safely escape, enact their home fire escape plan and call 911.”

The origin of the fire was in the basement. The cause of the fire remains undetermined due to the heavy structural damage, but is not deemed suspicious. Damage is estimated at $700,000. The residential dwelling is covered by a homeowners insurance policy.
