Posted on 09/20/2017

A black bear has been spotted in the Gill Road and Horseshoe Valley Road W area of the Township. Please use extreme caution.

  • Never approach a bear

  • Never feed a bear or leave food out unattended

  • While outdoors, make noise as you move around – especially in wooded areas. Singing, whistling or talking will alert bears to your presence, giving them a chance to avoid you.

  • Pay attention, especially while undertaking activities like working outdoors or gardening. Occasionally scan your surroundings to check for bears.

If You Encounter a Bear:

  • Stop what you’re doing. Don’t panic. Remain calm and slowly back away while continuing to watch the bear. If you are near a building or vehicle, get inside.

  • Call the Ministry of Natural Resources at 1-866-514-2327 or the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 to inform them of the location of the bear.
