Springwater / September 30, 2016 – At approximately 12 noon on Friday, September 30, Springwater Fire & Emergency Services responded to reports of a barn fire on Old Second Road, north of Midhurst.
All four Springwater Fire Stations responded to the call, and mutual aid was requested from the Townships of Oro-Medonte, Clearview, Essa, Tiny and the City of Barrie. Approximately 40 firefighters were on scene battling the blaze.
Upon arrival, crews discovered a fully-involved fire that was spreading rapidly. An additional three buildings were ignited before crews were able to contain the blaze. Strong wind gusts from the south east, expedited the spread of the fire.
“Firefighters did an excellent job battling this fire in tough conditions today,” says Interim Fire Chief Colin Shewell. “The wind gusts were reaching 36 km/h and provided the right conditions for this fire to spread quickly. Using their training, firefighters were able to divert the fire away from the long standing family homestead and minimize the damage to property.”
“A special thank you to our mutual aid partners for their assistance in battling this fire; by working together, we were able to contain it and ensure the safety of everyone involved, ” says Interim Deputy Fire Chief Jeff French.
No injuries to humans or animals have been reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
