After several years of planning, Springwater Council approved the Elmvale BIA on May 22, 2012.
The push to establish a BIA was initiated by local business leaders who wanted to improve Elmvale’s commercial area. The process involved a great deal of consultation, brainstorming, boundary adjustments and budget discussions before it could be brought to Council.
The first General Membership Meeting was held at the Elmvale branch of the Springwater Library on Tuesday, June 26, at 6:00 pm. At this meeting, a Board of Management was nominated and votes were held for each position allowing the membership to elect 7 Directors and 1 alternate Director.
The membership also drafted a list of high-level goals they wished to see accomplished by the new BIA, to assist the Board of Directors with drafting a budget. The overall goals, based on public input, are:
1. Promote through special events, attractions, advertising and marketing activities
2. Work with businesses, local organizations, to make our community a safe and vibrant place to visit, live, shop and do business
3. Recruit and attract new businesses and assist with the retention of existing businesses
