Please note: the following is a press release from Ontario's Lake Country.
We invite you to get out and discover the sweetest route in Ontario this spring! Pick-up your passport and experience all things maple on the Tap into Maple route in Ontario's Lake Country and Springwater. With this mild winter, the local maple syrup producers are geared up for this sweet time of year. With the sun shining and the warmer temperatures, the sap started to flow this past weekend. Seeing the sap dripping into the buckets had us at Ontario's Lake Country (the Destination Marketing Organization for Orillia, Oro-Medonte, Rama, Ramara & Severn) excited for the Tap into Maple program to officially kick off on March 1st!
Tap into Maple is a self-guided route that ventures through all of the municipalities in Ontario's Lake Country and Springwater. The program has something for everyone. You can discover maple in our region through stops at some of our most popular eateries, accommodations, sugar bushes, museums and shops. All stops have something to do with maple, the delicious quintessential Canadian flavour!
This year, Nicholyn Farms is hosting the program's launch on February 25th. The market will be abuzz with all things maple. The participating businesses will be in attendance at this event to provide sweet samples and to showcase what they are offering during Tap into Maple season. This year there are five maple syrup producers, four stay and play packages, and many opportunities to discover, taste, see, smell and shop all things maple! Sample delicious maple infused treats at local cafes, farmers' markets and restaurants. Learn about maple production and its history at our local museums, and through our great events. Discover unique maple inspired items at local shops.
The program formally starts on March 1st and runs until May 31st. Local residents and visitors are encouraged to experience all things maple along the Tap into Maple route, and collect stamps on their passport. Passports can be submitted for a chance to win some fantastic prizes! Visit the website www.TapIntoMaple.com for a full listing of the businesses, events and activities taking place, as well as an interactive map. “We are excited to launch our third year of Tap into Maple” said Jennifer Whitley, Executive Director for Ontario’s Lake Country. “This program has been great to expand on tourism in the region in a usually quieter season. We’re connecting culinary and agri-tourism by working with the local restaurants and producers and tying it all together with overnight stays at local accommodations who are offering unique maple-themed packages. The producers open their facilities and welcome in visitors to see the process of taping the trees and collecting the sap to make the syrup. We enjoy working with all of the businesses, having them connect with one another and promote each other. They like to come up with new ideas on using maple syrup and incorporate it into their offering which has provided a variety of experiences across the region for visitors to come and discover.”
Pick up your passport at any of the participating businesses or travel information centres. Plan your own personal maple route including upcoming events and activities. A map is included as a guide to get you to each of the destination. Make sure to show your passport at each location to get special discounts and sometimes even a complimentary treat – and get a maple stamp at each stop by participating in the program.
