Rollie Stephens left the Springwater-Elmvale Farmers’ Market on Friday with a renewed appreciation for local food and 2 free tickets to Savour Simcoe, taking place this Sunday.

Now in its sixth season, The Springwater-Elmvale Farmers’ Market operates from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday from June to October in the Municipal Parking Lot at 33 Queen Street W. in Elmvale.  To qualify for the Market, vendors must make it, bake it or grow it in Simcoe County. Artisans and crafters join local farmers and food producers to create a unique market experience.

Rollie won the tickets to Savour Simcoe through a unique initiative called the Springwater Sampler. Each time a purchase was made throughout the Market season, a ballot was provided to the customer to enter into a draw for the Springwater Sampler, a selection of goods from the vendors. Entries were also included into a grand prize draw for the chance to win two tickets to Savour Simcoe.

“We have been doing the Springwater Sampler draw each Friday and it has been very popular with vendors and customers at the Market,” says Bob Simmons, Springwater Elmvale Farmers’ Market Manager. “Savour Simcoe celebrates what farmers’ markets are all about, meeting the people who produce the food we eat and experiencing the freshest, local produce available.”

Savour Simcoe takes place this Sunday, August 24, 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Simcoe County Museum. Now in its seventh year, Savour Simcoe pairs local farmers and chefs who come up with unique taste offerings showcasing the quality food grown and produced in our region. At Savour Simcoe guests have an opportunity to talk face-to-face with those who grow and prepare their food, who are eager to share their knowledge and talent.

The Township of Springwater also ran the #WhyILoveLocal Twitter contest for two tickets to Savour Simcoe. Participants were encouraged to submit a picture of themselves enjoying local food, send the picture via Twitter to @SpringwaterTwp and @SavourSimcoe and include the hashtag #WhyILoveLocal. The contest ran from August 15 to 22.
