SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP / June 27, 2014– As the sun rises in Elmvale on Friday morning, there will be a group of people busily hoisting tents, artfully displaying locally grown produce, setting out fresh-out-of-the-oven cookies and breads and preparing to showcase their one-of-a-kind crafts and artwork. The Springwater-Elmvale Farmers’ Market is kicking off their sixth season with a Grand Opening Celebration on Friday, July 4.
Vendors must make it, bake it or grow it in Simcoe County in order to qualify for the Market. Artisans and crafters join local farmers and food producers to create a unique market experience. This year’s market features 20 vendors – 17 returning favourites and 3 new additions. The vendors will provide fresh herbs and plants, crafts, unique woodwork, fresh fruits and vegetables and baked goods still warm from the oven.
The Grand Opening Celebration will feature a variety of entertainment for the whole family including live acoustic music by Katy Austin; a special visit from local clown and children’s entertainer Mabel Moon who will delight crowds with her balloon animals and antics; and the first 100 people to arrive will receive a locally-made buttertart. The Official Opening Ceremony featuring local dignitaries will take place at 11:00 a.m.
The Farmers’ Market provides excellent economic benefits for the community. Surveying completed at the Springwater Elmvale Farmers’ Market in 2013 showed that attendees came from all over Southern Ontario and even from around the globe.
The Farmers’ Market is the perfect place to get great local products; catch up with neighbours and friends, and support local businesses. The Market operates from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday from June to October in the Municipal Parking Lot at 33 Queen St. W. in Elmvale.
