Health Hub Site Update

Council received an update on a community health hub being built in the downtown Midland area. The facility will co-locate both the CHIGAMIK Community Health Centre and Waypoint Centre for Mental Health’s outpatient programs. The facility will service residents from Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny, Tay and Springwater. Site construction is currently underway and they are working towards occupancy for December 2018.

Rzone Policy

A new policy that promotes a positive, safe and supportive environment for all members of staff and the public will be in effect in all Township owned facilities and properties. The Rzone is a program that requires all persons wishing to visit or use any Township facilities or programs to respect others and take responsibility for helping the Township maintain a positive environment.

The consequence for inappropriate behavior, including harassment, verbal assault, theft, vandalism and more, range from a written warning to being banned from all municipal facilities for a specified period of time.  The Township will place signage and promotional materials outlining the Rzone program at all municipal facilities.

Recreation Master Plan Update

The Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update has been approved by Council. The new plan was prepared by the Rethink Group and includes 80 recommendations. The recommendations were developed through extensive community consultation. Council has met four times in working sessions to conduct a thorough review and debate of all recommendations. The finalized plan can be viewed on the Township website.

Homer Barrett Park Splash Pad

A new splash pad will be installed in Homer Barrett Park in Elmvale. The contract for the design, supply and construction services of the Splash Pad was awarded to Diamond Head Irrigation Inc and will cost $298,800 plus taxes. The splash pad will be 3,050 square feet, have two designed play zones, 20 spray features, an anti-slip surface and a 16’x16’ aluminum shade shelter with two accessible tables. The new splash pad is expected to be operational by July 31, 2018.

Tender Results

The tender for aggregate production at the Township pit has been awarded to Winters Aggregates Limited in the amount of $136,583.10 including HST. The tender includes the crushing and hauling and crushing and storing or aggregate materials at the Township owned pit.

The tender for storm and sanitary sewer cleaning and CCTV inspection has been awarded to Sewer Technologies Inc. in the amount of $134,746.85 including HST. The work includes storm and sanitary sewer flushing, CCTV inspection and repairs made from the findings of the CCTV video inspection.
