SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP / October 20, 2015 – On Monday, October 19, 2015 at approximately 1:00 p.m. Springwater Fire and Emergency Services received a call to a residential fire on Centennial Avenue in Elmvale.
Firefighters from Stations in Elmvale, Hillsdale and Midhurst responded and upon arrival discovered a fire located in the garage. The fire was quickly brought under control and resulted in approximately $150,000 in damage. The garage suffered from significant fire damage, and the remainder of the house bore damage from heat and smoke. Occupants were home at the time of the fire, but were able to escape safely. No injuries were reported.
The fire has been deemed accidental and is not considered suspicious.
“Early detection was the key to minimizing the damage; having working smoke alarms can save precious minutes,” says Craig Williams, Deputy Fire Chief. “Having a practiced fire safety plan was also imperative to ensuring that everyone was able to exit the house safely.”
