SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP / June 7, 2012 – The small town of Elmvale is putting itself on the map with the establishment of a new Elmvale Business Improvement Area.
After several years of planning, Springwater Council approved the Elmvale BIA on May 22, 2012.
The push to establish a BIA was initiated by local business leaders who wanted to improve Elmvale’s commercial area. The process involved a great deal of consultations, brainstorming, boundary adjustments and budget discussions before it could be brought to Council.
The next step is a General Membership Meeting, which will be held at the Elmvale branch of the Springwater Library on Tuesday, June 26, at 6:00 pm. At this meeting, a Board of Management will be nominated and elected, which will lead to the official establishment of the BIA.
Every commercial tenant and landlord in the BIA boundary is a member, has a vote and can nominate or be nominated for the Board of Management.
Also taking place at the June 26 meeting will be a discussion of the high-level priorities and goals for the BIA to assist the new Board with the development of the first year budget.
A second General Meeting will be held at the Elmvale Branch of the Springwater Library on Tuesday, July 10 at 6:00 pm. At this meeting, the newly elected Board of Management will bring forward the budget to be presented to the general members.
